Churches - Web Design

Church Website Design

A custom WordPress website built for the specific demands of faith communities: online giving, an organized sermon library, a clear newcomer pathway, accessible design, and an events calendar that stays current. We build it around how your community actually uses it, not a generic church template.

Overview

What Makes a Great Church Website

Seven things every church site needs. We build all of them in from day one.

Newcomer flow

A clear pathway for first-time visitors

Service times, location, parking, and what to expect, all accessible within seconds of arriving on your homepage. A dedicated "I'm New" or "Plan a Visit" page removes the friction that turns curious visitors into no-shows.

Giving

Embedded online giving

Donors should be able to give directly on your site without being redirected to a third-party page. Embedded giving forms from Tithe.ly, Pushpay, or Subsplash keep the donor in your environment and reduce drop-off on giving pages.

Sermon library

An organized, searchable archive

Sermon content is often the first thing new visitors consume to understand your community. A well-structured archive, filterable by series, speaker, topic, or date, makes it easy to engage and easy for search engines to surface.

Performance

Mobile-first, every time

More than 63% of church website traffic comes from mobile devices, including congregation members checking the giving form or event schedule during services. Every element of the site has to work on a phone, not just render responsively.

Event calendar

Integrated, not double-entered

An events page that syncs with Planning Center means your team doesn't maintain two systems. Events stay current without manual double-entry, and your community can register directly from the website.

Forms

Prayer requests that stay private

Pastoral inquiry, prayer requests, and volunteer interest forms need to be simple, private, and reliably routed to the right staff member. We use Gravity Forms to build forms that are accessible and functional, not generic contact widgets.

Accessibility

ADA and WCAG built in

Alt text, keyboard navigation, sufficient color contrast, and captions on sermon video embeds. Accessibility is built into every site we launch, not added as a patch after the fact.

Process

Our Church Website Design Process

Six stages from kickoff to launch. Every one built around how faith communities actually use their site.

01

Discovery and Strategy

We start by understanding your community: the traditions you observe, the audiences you serve (longtime members, newcomers, online viewers), the giving platforms and management tools already in use, and your goals for the website. This conversation drives every decision that follows.

02

Architecture and Wireframes

Before any design work begins, we map the site structure: the newcomer pathway, sermon archive hierarchy, campus pages for multi-campus organizations, giving flow, and ministry pages. We get alignment on structure before investing in visual design.

03

Custom WordPress Design

We design a site that reflects your community's identity, not a generic church template. Typography, color, imagery, and layout all reflect who you are, and every design is built for mobile performance from the start, not adapted from a desktop layout.

04

Development and Integration

We build the site in WordPress and connect the integrations your community depends on: your giving platform, Planning Center or Breeze, sermon video embeds, podcast feeds, Mailchimp, and Gravity Forms. We test every integration before the site touches your congregation.

05

Accessibility Audit and QA

Before launch, every site runs through our 75+ step quality audit. This includes an accessibility review for WCAG 2.1 compliance: alt text, keyboard navigation, color contrast, form labeling, and video caption requirements.

06

Launch and Handoff

We launch the site and walk your team through managing content: sermon uploads, event edits, ministry page updates. We don't disappear at launch. Our maintenance plans keep the same team engaged after the site goes live.

Church Website Features and Integrations

The platforms your community actually runs on. We connect every site we build to the tools your team already uses.

Online giving

Tithe.ly, Pushpay, Subsplash

We embed giving forms directly in your site, supporting one-time gifts, recurring giving, fund designation, and text-to-give. Donors stay on your site throughout the entire process.

Church management

Planning Center, Breeze, Rock RMS

We connect events, groups, giving, and check-in data to your WordPress site so your team manages one system instead of two. Event calendars pull live from Planning Center.

Live streaming

YouTube Live, Vimeo, Facebook Live

We configure live stream embeds that load fast, display consistently on mobile, and don't degrade the rest of the page's performance during a service.

Sermon publishing

Podcasting and video archives

Seriously Simple Podcasting and PowerPress distribute sermon audio to Spotify and Apple Podcasts directly from your site. Easy Digital Downloads handles sermon recordings and study guide sales.

Forms & email

Gravity Forms, Mailchimp

Prayer requests, visitor connection cards, and volunteer interest forms with complex routing and conditional logic that generic contact widgets can't match.

Events

Eventbrite, Planning Center

For churches running larger community events or ticketed outreach programs, we embed event listings and registration flows directly in your WordPress events pages.

FAQ

How much does a church website cost?

Most church websites run $2,000 to $12,000. That covers a custom WordPress design with a newcomer pathway, embedded online giving, sermon archive, events calendar, and accessible forms. Multi-campus builds or sites with deep ChMS integrations are scoped individually and typically start above $15,000. We give you a clear, itemized estimate after our initial strategy call, no surprises.

Can you migrate our existing church website to WordPress?

Yes. We handle migrations from proprietary church website builders, older WordPress installs, and other CMS platforms. We bring over your content, maintain your URL structure where possible, and rebuild integrations like giving forms and sermon archives correctly in the new environment. Migrations are scoped individually based on the size and complexity of your existing site.

How long does it take to build a church website?

Most church website builds run 6 to 10 weeks from kickoff to launch. The main variable is content readiness: sermon library organization, photography, ministry page copy, and giving platform credentials. We'll walk through a realistic timeline in the strategy call and set milestones that work for your team's capacity.

Do you build websites for small churches with limited budgets?

Yes. Our $5,000 starting range is designed for smaller congregations that need a real website, not a template with a giving button dropped in. We scope projects to what you actually need. If a simpler build gets you there, we'll tell you that. We'd rather build something you can use and maintain than oversell a complex project to a small team.

Will our staff be able to update the site after launch?

Yes. WordPress is built for non-developers to manage. We walk your team through adding sermon content, editing event pages, updating ministry information, and managing giving page content, and we provide documentation specific to your site. If you'd rather not manage updates yourself, our maintenance plans include content update support so you can send us changes and we'll handle them.
