Photographers - Web Design

WordPress Website Design for Photographers

Portfolio-first design, optimized images, and the integrations your business actually runs on. High-resolution photography and fast page loads usually work against each other. We build sites that resolve that tension so your galleries stay crisp without dragging down performance or your search rankings.

Overview

What Makes a Great Photographer Website

Seven things every photographer site needs. We build all of them in from day one.

Performance

Fast-loading, high-resolution galleries

Images are compressed into modern WebP format and delivered with lazy loading, so your portfolio renders quickly on any device without sacrificing visual quality.

Mobile

Mobile-first responsive design

Most potential clients find photographers on their phones. Your site needs to look and perform as well on a 375px screen as it does on a desktop monitor.

Conversion

Integrated booking and inquiry flow

Contact forms, scheduling tools, and CRM connections reduce the friction between a visitor who's interested and a client who's booked.

Delivery

Client gallery and proofing integration

Password-protected client galleries connected to Pixieset, ShootProof, Pic-Time, or SmugMug make delivery smooth and professional.

Pricing

Transparent pricing pathways

Photographers who show starting pricing on their website generate significantly more qualified inquiries. We build pricing sections that frame your value and set expectations before the consultation call.

SEO

SEO-ready architecture

Semantic heading structure, optimized image alt text, descriptive file names, and clean URL structure mean your portfolio has a technical foundation that search engines can actually read.

Social

Social media feed integration done right

Instagram feed embeds can cripple load speed if implemented carelessly. We integrate social feeds in a way that keeps page performance intact.

Process

Our Website Design Process for Photographers

Five stages from kickoff to launch. Every one built around how photography clients actually behave online.

01

Discovery and Strategy

We start by understanding your photography specialty, your ideal clients, your booking process, and your current site's strengths and weaknesses. We leave this step with a clear scope and a shared understanding of success.

02

Design and Portfolio Architecture

We design your site around your portfolio, not a generic template. Gallery organization matters for both aesthetics and SEO, so we map out the full page structure, gallery layouts, and navigation before a single line of code is written.

03

Development and Integration

We build on WordPress with a performance-focused setup: properly configured hosting, an image optimization pipeline, and your business tools connected and tested, including HoneyBook, Dubsado, Pixieset, ShootProof, and Pic-Time.

04

QA, Performance Testing, and Launch

Every photographer website goes through our 75+ point quality audit before it goes live. We test load speed, mobile rendering, form submissions, gallery display, integration connections, and Core Web Vitals. Nothing launches until it passes.

05

Handoff and Ongoing Support

After launch, we walk you through updating your portfolio, publishing blog posts, and managing the basics. If you want ongoing support, our care plans keep your site secure, updated, and fast month after month.

Photographer Website Features and Integrations

The specialty tools we plug into. Every photographer site we build gets integrated with the platforms your business actually runs on, not a generic stack.

CRM & studio management

Where your business runs

HoneyBook, Dubsado, 17hats, Studio Ninja, Tave, Sprout Studio. Contracts, invoices, scheduling, and client communication connected directly to your site's inquiry flow.

Client galleries

Delivery that feels professional

Pixieset, ShootProof, Pic-Time, SmugMug, CloudSpot. Password-protected galleries and proofing integrated cleanly with your website instead of bolted on as an afterthought.

Booking & scheduling

Fewer emails, more bookings

Calendly, Acuity Scheduling. Automated consultation scheduling with intake forms and payment collection built into the booking step.

Social & marketing

Visual discovery, done right

Instagram feed integration, Pinterest. Performance-optimized embeds that show your latest work and feed Pinterest SEO without slowing your site down.

Image performance

Built for hundreds of images

WebP conversion, lazy loading, and CDN delivery configured so a 300-image portfolio loads as fast as a 30-image one.

Flexibility

FAQ

How much does a photographer website cost?

Most photographer websites run $2,000 to $12,000 depending on scope: how many pages, which integrations, whether you need a blog, and how complex the gallery and booking setup is. Simpler portfolio sites with one specialty and a contact form land at the lower end. Full business sites with multiple service pages, a blog, CRM integration, and client gallery delivery sit higher. We scope everything after a free consultation.

Do you build on WordPress, Squarespace, or Showit?

We build exclusively on WordPress. It gives photographers the most control over long-term performance, SEO, plugin integrations, and content management. Squarespace and Showit have their uses, but neither offers the same depth of customization or SEO capability that WordPress delivers at scale. We're 100% focused on WordPress, which means deep expertise and zero split attention across platforms.

Can you work with my existing portfolio and branding?

Yes. We work with your existing logo, color palette, typography, and brand direction. If you want a refresh, we can build that into the project. What we're designing is the site structure, layout, user experience, and performance layer, not necessarily your visual identity from scratch unless that's part of the brief.

How do you handle image optimization for large portfolios?

Image optimization is built into our standard process, not an add-on. We convert images to WebP format, configure lazy loading so only visible images load on scroll, and set up a CDN for fast delivery regardless of where your visitors are located. For large portfolios, we also optimize how WordPress caches and serves images to avoid performance regressions as your gallery grows.

Will my website be easy to update myself?

Yes. We build with content management in mind. Adding new portfolio images, publishing blog posts, updating pricing, and swapping gallery sections are all designed to be straightforward for a non-technical user. We walk you through it after launch. If you'd rather hand off updates to us, that's part of our ongoing care plans.
