The challenge
Position 37 for a design-build firm meant this business was invisible to the people most likely to hire them. High-consideration landscape design is a search category where prospects spend time researching -- if you're not on page one or two, you're not in the conversation.
The site was ranking, but for the wrong reasons. Broad queries about landscape design, DIY landscaping, generic gardening topics. Not the queries that lead to a $50K design-build engagement.
The strategy
We built out portfolio-adjacent content: design style pages, service-tier pages, project-scope content, and geographic service pages tied to the firm's high-value service area. We wanted the site to look, to Google, like a regional design-build firm, not a landscape encyclopedia.
We also structured content around the design process itself -- consultation, design phase, build phase, maintenance -- because those pages match how serious prospects actually search when they're getting ready to commit.
The results
| Metric | Before (Summer 2025) | After (Summer 2026) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clicks | 272 | 441 | +62% |
| Impressions | 146,840 | 97,413 | -34% |
| Avg search position | 36.9 | 16.0 | Improved 21 pos |
| CTR | 0.19% | 0.45% | 2.4x |
This is a healthy profile across every axis. Ranking up 21 spots. Clicks up 62% even though impressions came down. CTR more than doubled. Every metric that matters for a high-consideration service business moved the right direction.
Design-build clients don't come from generic landscaping searches. They come from geographic, design-style, and scope-specific queries -- and those are the queries this site now ranks for.
